Plans and limits

What each Abuna plan includes, and what happens when you go over a limit.

Your Abuna plan sets how many Live subscribers, apps, and members a team can have. Each team has its own plan. You can own as many teams as you need. Test mode is free, and nothing in it counts toward a limit.

Plans

  • Free (free): FCFA 0. 20 Live subscribers, 1 app per team, and 2 members per team.
  • Plus (plus): FCFA 3,000 a month or FCFA 30,000 a year. 150 Live subscribers, 3 apps per team, and 10 members per team.
  • Pro (pro): FCFA 9,900 a month or FCFA 99,000 a year. 1,000 Live subscribers, and no limit on apps or members.
  • Scale (scale): FCFA 25,000 a month or FCFA 250,000 a year. No limits.

Prices include VAT. A year costs the same as ten months. You can pay in XAF or XOF, at the same amounts, with mobile money. Team owners can change the plan in the dashboard, under Plan and usage for that team.

On the Free plan, your hosted checkout, pay links, customer portal, and customer emails show "Billed with Abuna". Paid plans don't.

What counts toward a limit

  • Live subscribers: customers of your Live apps who have an active subscription, or whose first payment is in progress. A customer counts once, however many subscriptions they hold in the same app. The count covers the team's Live apps.
  • Apps: Live apps in a team. An app's Test mode doesn't count as another app.
  • Members: the people in a team. A pending invite holds a seat too.

When you reach a limit

Abuna refuses anything that would take you past your plan. Nothing you already have is removed. The request returns 403 with code plan_limit:

Response 403 plan_limit
{
  "code": "plan_limit",
  "error": "the free plan allows no more live_subscribers; plus does",
  "limit": "live_subscribers",
  "plan": "free",
  "plan_needed": "plus"
}
  • limit is what ran out: live_subscribers, apps, or members.
  • plan is the plan whose limits apply now.
  • plan_needed is the smallest plan that allows one more.

At the Live subscriber limit, you can't create a subscription for a new customer, and a new customer's first payment is refused. Customers you already count are never refused: renewals go through, and a current subscriber can start another subscription.

Customers never see your plan. When a new customer tries to subscribe on your hosted checkout or pay a pay link while you're at the limit, they see that you aren't taking new subscribers right now, and that nothing was charged. The request returns 403 with code seller_at_capacity:

Response 403 seller_at_capacity
{
  "code": "seller_at_capacity",
  "error": "the seller takes no new subscribers"
}

Moving to a smaller plan

If you don't renew a paid plan, it keeps working for 14 days after the date it's paid through. After that, the Free plan's limits apply. If you move to a smaller paid plan, its limits apply as soon as its first payment goes through.

Either way, nothing is deleted. Extra apps in that team stay writable for 14 days after you move, then become read-only. When an unpaid plan runs out, they become read-only at that moment. The team's oldest apps stay writable, as many as the plan allows. Other teams are not affected.

In a read-only Live app:

  • You can still read everything.
  • Other changes return 403 with code plan_read_only.
  • Customers can still pay, renewals still run, and you can still charge an invoice through the API.
  • You can still revoke API keys and rotate your publishable key and webhook signing secret.
  • Its Test mode stays writable.
Response 403 plan_read_only
{
  "code": "plan_read_only",
  "error": "this is beyond the free plan's apps, so it is read-only; plus covers it",
  "limit": "apps",
  "plan": "free",
  "plan_needed": "plus"
}

To make them writable again, move to the plan in plan_needed.
